Name: Two-Headed Naga in Burgundy & Champagne
This large shaman cloth or ceremonial blanket is made from village-raised, hand-reeled silk, naturally dyed, and handwoven on a hand built loom. The primary deep red or burgundy color is made from lac, the resin exuded by a scale bug. The motifs are of two columns of curled-tailed naga (mythological river serpents) with triangle "spines", and with smaller straight tailed naga in-between, plus flowers, silkworms, and other small motifs. Textile comes with a photo of the designer and natural dyer, Phout, wearing the textile.
