Name: Striped Naga Shawl
This lovely large silk shawl is dyed exclusively in natural dyes . This shawl is woven on a deep red (made from lac dye) with continuous rainbow stripes representing the mythological hong bird (whose belly is the rainbow) surrounding a brocaded (discontinuous supplementary weft) pattern of two-headed naga (mythological river serpents). The silk is village-raised, hand-reeled, naturally dyed silk, which is handwoven on hand-built looms. This textile was naturally dyed and designed by Phouth, who is pictured wearing a sibling cloth (same pattern, but in blue).
