Name: Orange on Black Diamonds
Item#: 18077
The rich orange box of naga (mythological river serpents) pattern in this textile is balanced with splashes of blues, light green, and shades of red on a black ground. Quite a dynamic color combination! The box of naga pattern is traditional for the Tai Daeng (red Tai) people, who believed that women have a soft spot on their heads through which evil spirits can enter and make them sick. When the box of naga pattern is woven in their headscarves and wrapped to have the box of naga over the "soft spot", the naga can protect the woman by chasing away any evil spirits. Handwoven of village raised, hand reeled, naturally dyed silk this piece is ready to protect you, your house, or anyone to whom it is gifted. Comes with a photo of the young woman weaver modeling her textile.
