An unusual striped representation of mythological river spirits (naga) with stripes of stylized butterflies between are the motifs on the blue on blue shawl with additional color accents. The stolid colored rows of mini-stripes are script hooks, which can represent the crook of Buddha's stave, a fish hook, or the tendrils of pea or gourd vines. This textile is handwoven from village-raised, hand-reeled, naturally dyed silk. The textiles is bordered by silkworm cocoons cut and inverted to resemble flowers. A photo of the designer and natural dyer, Phout, wearing the textile accompanies the piece.
