Large Elephant Door Curtain
Name: Large Elephant Door Curtain
Item#: 14082
Traditionally, in Laos, houses did not have internal doors. Instead, door curtains would be used in place of a door, and motifs, both mythological and natural, would be woven into the door curtain to provide spiritual protection to those using the room. The curtain would be pushed to the side as people entered and exited the door. This door curtain is handwoven with cotton blend bright red ground, with natural and analine-dyed silk weft patterning of two large elephants and small flower motifs.
Size: 28" x 79"
Origins: Houaphon Province, Laos
