Name: Kin Mun Lantien Priest's Mask
This mask is from the late 20th Century, and, during its short lifespan, has been used in numerous Daoist rituals by its Kin Mun Lanten She or Black Dzao (Yao) Priest owner. Distinctive features include the patina on the six-sided knob on top of its head, elongated face, carved smile lines and forehead wrinkles, and a calm, yet mischievous, mien. The mask has insect tunnels (from termites?) that were in the wood before it was carved, lending more character. The strip of red fabric around the head knob is a cloth remnant from its last use.
Size: 12 in. tall x 7.5 in. wide
Origins: Ha Giang Province, Vietnam
