Name: Curled-Tailed Pregnant Naga Cloth

Item#: 18012

This crisply woven and colored cloth is filled with two columns of pregnant curled-tailed naga (mythological river serpents), with diamonds of flowers, diamonds of naga, with little birds and naga surrounding them. The bright primary colors are corralled by the white dominant naga creating simultaneously a dynamic and a serene feeling. The naga has been recently recognized by UNESCO as an intangible cultural heritage figure due to its ubiquitous use throughout various cultures in Laos. Striking as a wall hanging, this textile also wears well as an elegant shawl. Tassles on edges are made from inverted silk worm cocoons cut to resemble flowers. Comes with a photo of the natural dyer and designer, Souk, modeling the textile.

Size: 30" x 80"

Origins: Houaphan Province, Laos

Price: $1,265.00
