Name: Bright Turquoise Shoulder Cloth

Item#: 18050

Yes this is a naturally dyed textile. The bright turquoise color is obtained by soaking a lot of indigo in water for 4-5 days, discarding the indigo solids, then vigorously mixing in limestone to bring out this color. It is magical to watch the dye develop! This textile is composed of naga motifs, though the way the pattern is created, it looks like the center head with one eye of the phii nyak (a giant spirit that lives in the forest and is used to scare children from going into the forest alone, but when woven into a textile becomes a fiercely protective spirit) with arms that are naga (mythological river spirits). There are also small diamonds with small birds surrounding them between the creatures. Hand woven of village raised silk, hand reeled, and naturally dyed, this textile comes with a photo of the weaver modeling the textile.
