Name: Bright Blue with White Diamonds
Item#: 14094
This is a wonderfully contrasting textile with its bright indigo ground offsetting the white and primary and secondary colored pattern. The primary pattern is the box of naga (mythological river serpents). The white portions are naga heads all connected to the same body, or lines with triangles that represent naga, These are filled with brightly colored flowers. The Tai Daeng people believed that women had a soft spot on their heads through which evil spirits could enter and make her sick, so the box of naga pattern was always used on headscarves to cover that spot when the scarf was tied on. Here the pattern appears in a shoulder cloth. This handwoven, village raised, hand reeled, naturally dyed silk shoulder cloth comes with a photo of the weaver modeling her piece.
