Name: River Current with Flowers Shawl or Skirt

Item#: 14040

This all-naturally dyed silk tapestry was originally designed as a Lao style sinh (skirt), but it also makes a striking shawl or wall hanging. The one-of-a-kind silk shows off the weaver's talent with two types of weaving skill: she used the tapestry weave style to create the diamond-shaped "river current" pattern, and she used the discontinuous supplemental weft style of weaving for to create the complex blue-toned bands that are on either side of the tapestry weave, and whose motif is the "diamond of flowers." This piece is meticulously woven by a master-weaver in Xam Tai, Laos. A photo of the designer and natural dyer is included in the purchase.

Size: 78 x 34" (198 cm x 86 cm)

Origins: Xam Tai, Houaphon Province, Laos
