Name: Kin Mun Lantien Priest's Mask
This mask is approximately 10-15 years old, and, during its short lifespan, has been used in numerous Daoist rituals by its Kin Mun Lantien She or Black Dzao (Yao) Priest owner. Distinctive features include the patina on the six-sided knob on top of its head, elongated face, carved smile lines and forehead wrinkles, and a calm, yet mischievous, mien. The mask has insect tunnels (from termites?) that were in the wood before it was carved, lending more character. The strip of red fabric around the head knob is either left from the last ceremony, or used to suspend the mask.
Size: 12 in. tall x 7.5 in. wide
Origins: Ha Giang Province, Vietnam
