Name: Dzao Shaman's Mask
Shaman mask of the Dzao (Yao) people of northern Vietnam. Worn by shaman during ceremony; believed to help adhere one's spirits more closely to oneself for protection. Pink paper on nose and chin, and frilly gray paper on cheeks put on with rice glue at last ceremony; paper would be washed off and new bright paper reapplied at next formal use. About 50 years old.
