Name: Naga and Ancestor Spirits
Brilliant red sets off the hand-reeled, naturally dyed, handwoven silk continuous supplemental weft black patterning of Naga (mythological river serpents). The silky shimmer of the black and red center is offset by the narrow borders of two-headed naga, depicted in discontinuous supplemental weft using multiple colors of thread to depict the Naga within other geometric figures. Edged with flowers made of cut silkworm cocoons, this piece comes with a photo of the designer and natural dyer wearing the textile.
