Name: Mythological Elephant Birds in Burgundy
Made from village-raised, hand-reeled, naturally dyed, handwoven silk, this lovely shawl or wall hanging is filled with a powerful mythological creature called a saang hong or elephant bird. The animal has an elephant trunk and bird feet, and is filled with hooks in a rainbow of colors which represents the mythological bird whose belly is the rainbow. On its back is a temple with an ancestor spirit in it, and under its belly is a bay saang hong. The space around the primary creature is filled with flowers, birds, butterflies, and mythological creatures. A photo of the natural dyer and designer wearing the textile is included with purchase.
