Deer Door Curtain
Name: Deer Door Curtain
Item#: 15232
Traditionally, in Laos, houses did not have internal doors. Instead, door curtains would be used in place of a door, and motifs, both mythological and natural, would be woven into the door curtain to provide spiritual protection to those using the room. The curtain would be pushed to the side as people entered and exited the door. This door curtain is handwoven with cotton blend bright red ground, with naturally dyed cotton weft, and filled with spotted deer, which are a sign of friendship in Laos as they travel in groups. Additional smaller motifs include stylized birds, butterflies, and flowers.
Size: 15" x 59"
