Name: Wide Silk Shaman Cloth
Naga fill this wide silk shaman cloth in their myriad of styles; crested, two-headed double naga; crested two-headed naga; baby naga; and crested single headed naga, There are also hong birds and a diamond of flowers and baby naga. The borders include hong birds with baby hong on their backs, siho with birds on their backs, two-headed siho, ancestor spirits, birds and flowers, and a water pattern finished with a braided fringe. No space in this naturally-dyed, handwoven textile is left unfilled by traditional Laos supplemental weft designs. This shaman cloth came from a small village in Houaphon Province where the women specialize in creating shaman and healing cloths. A photo of the artist is included.
