Name: Tobacco Basket
This is a double-walled, lidded, oval, straight-sided basket of bamboo with a gently-used patina, wooden top and bottom inserts and hemp rope tie with a 1938 French Indochinese 5 cent coin as a closure. These style of baskets were used for storing tobacco or money, particularly when money was in long boat-shaped ingots over 100 years ago. Baskets of this type, particularly in this condition, are becoming rarer.
