Name: Tapestry Weave Healing Cloth
This is one of the finest colored, designed, and woven pieces in our collection. Souk (see newsletter #10) is the creator of the natural dyes for this piece, as well as the designer. This was the first piece of hers created with her new mountain pattern tapestry section. The handspun, handwoven, naturally dyed piece is one of the most impeccably woven pieces we've seen. The supplemental discontinuous weft designs on the ends are crisp and precise, using geometric flower patterns, diamonds of flowers with broad white cross-hatch patterns representing naga (mythological river serpents), and what appear to be ancestor spirit women - I've never seen reference to these patterns in any reference book, nor have we seen them in other people's designs. Rows of script hooks, water design, and tassels made of cut, inverted silkworm cocoons complete the textile. The piece comes with a photo of Souk modeling this textile.
