A gentle pair of Ta Oi statues, these are hand carved from local wood, type unknown. These statues are traditionally placed in the central spirit house or on the stairs of an individual family home welcoming people into the dwelling. The man is wearing a traditional loincloth and the woman is wearing a traditional sinh (skirt). Both are carrying backpack baskets, which, in real life, would have been woven from rattan and bamboo. As the statues have aged and traveled, there is natural checking of the wood in both pieces. For this item, actual shipping cost will be billed.
