Name: Pregnant Saang Hong & Ancestor Spirits

Item#: 9109

With large figures of Saang Hong (mythological elephant-birds) pregnant with birds, this boldly colored, yet softly muted coloring textile is both striking as a wall hanging, and yet soft to wear. Ancestor spirits ride on the backs of the Saang Hong, and the figures surrounding their heads are stylized horses. Flowers and birds fill the remaining spaces of this lovely textile, with border rows of the symbol woven of bamboo that is placed as a protective token at houses and fields that have recently received a shaman ceremony. Comes with a photo of the natural dyer and designer wearing the textile.

Size: 18.5 in. x 83 in.

Origins: Houaphon Province, Laos
