Name: Pale Teal Complex Naga
This pale teal ground shaman cloth is filled with naga (mythological river serpents) - curled tailed naga, two headed naga, triangle and diamond headed naga, and supported and surrounded by diamonds of flowers and rainbows of flowers and stripes, representing the belly of the mythological hong bird, whose belly is the rainbow. Handwoven from village raised, hand reeled, naturally dyed silk, the motifs in predominantly natural colored silk sparked with color are designed in a manner to disguise the figures, enabling the shaman to invoke these mythological creatures in a ceremony, surprising the bad spirits that are creating the need for shamanistic intervention. Finished with silk worm cocoons cut to resemble flowers, this textile comes with a photo of the natural dyer and designer wearing her art.
