Name: Naga and Phi Nyak Shaman Cloth
This is a handwoven, village-raised, hand-reeled, naturally dyed, silk shaman cloth. The patterns included in this piece are predominantly naga (mythological river serpents). The creature in the center could be two naga heads meeting or a phi nyak (mythological giant spirit that becomes a protective spirit when woven in textiles). in the borders is a two headed draught naga, baby naga with scales, or pregnant naga, depending on the intent of the artist. The diamonds also represent a lantern to light the way to the ancestor world. A picture of the designer and natural dye artist, Souksakhone, modeling her textile is included with purchase.
