Name: Mythological Green
Brilliant forest green frames and provides the background for a full variety of mythological creatures woven into this naturally dyed, handwoven, village-raised hand-reeled silk shaman cloth. Marching up the cent or the textile are large saang hong (mythological elephant birds) pregnant with two-headed naga (mythological river serpents), hong birds (mythological birds whose belly is the rainbow),flowers, and silk worms. On its back is another smaller saang hong pregnant with a rainbow (representing the hong bird), with yet another saang hong on its back, and another saang hong under the main figure. On both sides of the saang hong are pregnant naga and phii nyak (mythological giant spirits, composed of a head with central eye and two curving arms). The remaining space is filled with flowers. Finished with silk worm cocoons cut to resemble flowers, this textile comes with a photo of the designer and natural dyer wearing her art.
