Name: Large Red and Orange Shawl
A large shawl originally woven as a skirt (sinh), this Lao textile is of very fine silk and woven as error free as handwoven textiles can be. It is composed reds from claret through fuscia, plus orange and tangerine. Patterns include brocade fields of plants, tapestry-weave river flow pattern, and brocade ancestor spirits riding on mythical elephant-lions (siho) with hong birds and plant designs, all set between plain weave stripes. A shimmering piece in any light, this piece comes with a photograph of the master designer.
