Name: Kin Mun Lantien Priest's Mask

Item#: 8396

This is a 40 year old, well used, Daoist ritual mask from the Black Dzao (Yao) or Kin Mun Lantien She people from Ha Giang Province, Vietnam. Its distinctive characteristics are the deeply carved facial lines around the mouth, then from the eyes and center of the forehead back to the hair line. The mask has a knob on top of its head with good wear, and a tiny post on the bottom back of the chin. The face has a big grimace, lots of separated teeth, close set eyes, rather European looking nose, and offset ears. There are facial lines all over face going around mouth, then from eyes and center of forehead back to hair line. The long vertical spike on the top of its head has good wear, and a tiny post on bottom back of chin. Excellent patina.

Size: 14.5 in. tall x 8 in. wide

Origins: Ha Giant Province, Vietnam
