Name: Handspun Cotton Blanket

Item#: 5120

This is a mid-twentieth century blanket composed primarily of hand spun cotton. The center design is made with a supplemental weft of indigo dyed cotton, and the piece has an inner border top and bottom of red-dyed hand spun cotton plain weave and side inner borders of black commercial cotton. The red has bled a bit into the backing cotton as well as the borders and back of 2/3 commercial plain cotton and 1/3 hand spun cotton. Traditional designs include crabs, flowers, and hooks. This blanket has not been washed, and the staining on the back may well come out with a gentle wash and the colors may brighten a bit as well!

Size: 43 in. x 60 in.

Origins: Houaphan Province, Laos
