Name: Cotu Backpack Basket

Item#: 993

A sturdy, kindly used carrying basket with shoulder straps. This beautiful rattan basket has a lovely rich patina on the side worn against the body, having been used by a member of the Cotu people before being obtained. The legs, body, and straps are rattan, with a wooden base. Two rows of the body rattan were smoked above the fire or dyed with indigo to make a contrasting black band for decoration. This basket is strong enough to be used for its original purpose, or as a decorative accent alone or with tall branches or flowers filling the body.

Size: 18 in. high x 12 in. wide

Origins: Central Highlands, Vietnam
