Name: Woman-Man-Woman Healing Cloth
Item#: 15342
This silk shoulder cloth is made in the style of a Woman/Man/Woman healing cloth. The multi-colored patterned ends are the same pattern as the middle, but the middle man pattern is predominantly one color, bright blue, while the woman ends are a riot of multiple bright colors and white. The pattern is of two headed Naga (mythological river serpents) and diamonds of flowers including small Naga. Woven on a black ground, the predominantly cream pattern pops with bright red, pink navy, orange, green, periwinkle, and yellow. This textile is made from village-raised, natural-dyed silk, and is handwoven using the discontinuous supplemental weft style of weaving in Houaphan Province in NE Laos. The fringe of “flowers” is made of inverted silk cocoons and silk tassles. A photo of the artist wearing her textile is included.
