Name: Love Tokens - Larger
These small silk textiles, called "phaa kan mon" (translated as "auspicious clothes" or, affectionately, "love tokens"), are made of locally-raised, naturally-dyed silk and are of the same quality as the larger ceremonial textiles of the Lao-Tai people. They are "sample sized," although bit longer than the "LTX" love tokens we present in another window. Each larger love token works displays a single motif-element, or may repeat a smaller motif up to three times. Traditionally, they were woven by young women to display their talent, intelligence, , and skills to potential suitors. Young weavers often start with creating this size, as the investment in silk is small and the reward is more quickly accomplished. They come in colors that range the rainbow.
