Name: Diamond of Flowers in Gold Shoulder Cloth
This silk shoulder cloth with predominantly white pattern on a luscious shimmery gold has a primary motif of Diamonds of Flowers, which can represent a lantern to light the way to the spirit world. Secondary motifs include little Naga - mythological river serpents. The supplementary colors are used salmon-pink, periwinkle and teal. This textile is made from village-raised, natural-dyed silk, and is handwoven using the discontinuous supplemental weft style of weaving in Houaphan Province in NE Laos. The fringe of “flowers” is made of inverted silk cocoons and silk tassles. A photo of the artist wearing her textile is included.
