Traditional Hmong kaen ("mouth organ") instrument used for ritual and entertainment purposes. Made of 14 hollow bamboo reeded wind pipes, each with a fingered wind hole. Center hand-hold is of carved wood, with seams sealed with natural lac (a bug excretion processed and used primarily as a textile dye). 100% handmade and of natural materials. Purchased new from the artist in his small village of Ban Tao, Houaphan Province, Laos in 2018. Yes - it's in tune!
